We have all seen in the new update how it is named "Faction - Balthazar".
A curious thing, since there is 5 gods.
So that must mean they plan on adding Faction for other gods.
Maybe in the future, faction can be gotten thru FoW/UW (Faction - Grenth for doing UW and Faction - Balthazar for doing FoW).
So what will the faction for the other gods implement?
I think Grenth faction could be gotten by simply killing people/monsters, both in PvP & PvE. What this is used for?
Maybe for unlocking, or maybe for buying rare items such as Fellblades.
And Melandru faction could be for exploring the lands.
The more % on a single char you have, the more faction with Melandru, since she is attuned to nature.
Maybe you could buy access to new EAs from this.
Lyssa, I would guess, would be used to customize looks.
It could be gotten thru roleplaying, and as a form of reputation points, where people judge how good people roleplay, and thus rate them to give them Faction - Lyssa.
Now Dwayna is the god of healing.
So maybe it could be gotten by playing monks, and the rewards could be to never get in party with jerks:P
Nah, seriously, Faction - Dwayna... maybe by avoiding mobs alltogether?
And for a reward could be various apparel for your character, such as halos, or wings:P

Just ideas.
So, let your mind fly free, and say what you think they mean by "Faction - Balthazar" instead of just "Faction".

Meh, I dunno about that. Balth. is the god of war, so it's only fitting that you get faction with him for PvP.

But yeah, I thought 'Faction' was an odd choice of terms.

I personally think Faction here might work like some other games, where gaining faction with one party means you lose faction with another

Think of the polar opposites here.

Balthazar of War, Dwayna of Peace, Melandru of Harmony, Lyssa of Chaos, and...

Grenth the weird guy who causes you to lose faction w/ everyone else. >.>

Oh, and rodgorT, you gain faction from him if you burninate things, and avoid slaying drakes and hydra >.>

Cmon, someone else gotta think this has significance.
I mean, couldn't they just have called it, dunno, "PvP Points".
There must be a deeper meaning to calling it faction and aligning these Faction points with Balthazar.

Or it could simply be that Balthazar is the God of War and the PvP component is a battle. I.e winning battles means you are a good warrior and so you gain favour with Balthazar who rewards you for your acheivements.

It would be nice to see the gods involved more but don't forget they withdrew from the world really. Hence having to gain their focus.

I thought something similar, too, but only time can tell. Faction with other gods would be awesome -- but it's up to ANet to implement it. As it stands, they still have two major projects on their hands, so it'll probably be a while before we see anything further about faction.
